The Monkey's Back ...

... and there's gonna be trouble, hey la hey la. At least that's what Katie-Bar-The-Door is singing down in the kitchen as she searches the cabinets for breakfast. We flew back late last night into the front edge of a storm that promises to dump twenty inches of snow by Sunday morning. Cannibalism may be on the menu. Stay tuned.

I'm just getting reoriented to the internet and blogging but I'll post my entry on Little Caesar and The Public Enemy as soon as it's ready. Unlike most of my friends, when I'm on the road, I have no internet capability—or try not to—so I'm way behind reading comments, news and the blogs I follow.

I see that Waterloo Bridge is showing early strength in the contest for the last nomination for best picture of 1931-32. This would only come as a surprise to someone who hasn't seen the movie. It really does stand head and shoulders above its better known remake.

Anyway, you have until December 24 to cast your vote.

Now I'm off to catch a squirrel for my breakfast.

  2. Welcome back, Myth! Hiya Ernest (great shot of the Great Old Man in action). And don't ask for whom the bell tolls, Squirrel. Mr. Monkey is back and he is HUNGRY.

Katie-Bar-The-Door and I have been out shoveling 16 inches of snow -- and unfortunately that's not a euphemism for anything. And it's still coming down.

This storm threatens to rival the St. Valentine's Day Massacre of 2003 when we got 27 inches of snow. I think it was four days before the plows finally reached our street. We were eating cardboard and shoe leather by the end ...

Which of course would be amateur hour for my Midwestern pals like Who Am Us and Thingy, but around here, that's a lot of snow.

  4. Man, 16 inches-o-snow is a LOT of snow anywhere in the world. But in DC? Yowza! Lucky you guys got in ahead of it!

  5. The snow finally stopped -- 21 inches officially. More than enough for my tastes.

(Oh, and the Baltimore Sun's website reminds me that that snowfall in 2003 I mentioned was 28 inches, not 27 as I wrote. Wouldn't want to lead anyone astray ...)

Hopefully the plows will reach our street today so we can pick up our dog at the kennel. She's probably forgotten who we are by now.

I'm sure he's just drinking an RC Cola -- maybe with a Moon Pie for dessert.
