I thought all those actors were good sports to show up at the premiere and play along. Although I couldn't help notice that Greta Garbo gave it a miss. I guess she really did want to be alone.
One thing about that "Grand" Hotel of the movie -- unless you were shelling out CEO prices and staying in a suite, you didn't have a private bath. And according to Lionel Barrymore's Otto Kringelein, the pipes banged all night long.
If I wanted that I could stay at a Motel 6.
Although I guess that wouldn't be as catchy a title for a movie -- "Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery and Lionel Barrymore in -- Motel 6!"
Ha! Altho at the Motel 6 at least you *would* be guaranteed a private bath . . .
Yes, it's too bad Garbo wasn't there. When they started talking about the people going bonkers about the next arrival, thought it would be her -- but no, Norma Shearer. And so strange to see how Clark Gable was still such a minor player, as it took him forever to be acknowledged in Norma's wake.
Ooo, I wonder what ever happened to that register . . .
