Well, I'm Standing Next To A Mountain ...

We got 30.2 inches of snow between lunchtime Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Woke up this morning to find this in my front yard. And there's another one right next to it. So no blogging today, but lots of shoveling.

The neighborhood kids have turned the taller of the two into the best combination snow fort/slide you've ever seen. We've never had a mountain named after us before.

Life is good.

  1. That's some awesome Twin Peaks ... plus, the sun's out! Your dog has to be digging this whole scene.

She's very puzzled. She keeps looking at me like "hey, where's the grass at? Take me to the grass so I can do my business. Take me now!"

So we dug out a patch of grass. And she said, "No no, not this grass -- the other grass!"

And they're forecasting another 6-12 inches on Tuesday ...

  3. LOL. You blocked out the dog, too.

    It does look pretty, though.

  7. Holy cow. That's more white stuff than I'd care to deal with, but I suppose getting a mountain named after you makes up for a lot.

  8. Then there are dogs who prefer snow to grass . . . dogs possessing certain genetics that make them forget they've a human, not a sled, at the other end of the leash -- occasionally transforming events previously known as 'walks' into . . . I'd like to say 'a thrilling action scene', but it's really more akin to slapstick, with just a little extra bit of thrill attached as one successfully rides 'round the icy corner on one foot.

I hope your sweet pup has found plenty of other grass to keep her satisfied, at least until Tues.

Wow. That is a lot of snow. Afraid my lil' shovel would just throw itself down and have a raging tantrum if confronted with such a task. A kudos to you brave Northerners!

  10. 'voo-doo chili'

Tom is referring to the time I laid eyes on my first Jimi Hendrix record, lo these many years ago, and said, "Voodoo Chili? What the hell is voodoo chili?"

Subsequent research revealed Jimi was singing voodoo chile, one of the great rock numbers of all time ...

Speaking of chili, though, Katie and I ate chili for the super Bowl this year. Good chili, good game, good performance by the Who at halftime.

  12. By the way, I think we ALL thought it was Voo-doo chili the first time we saw it
