Kay Francis (Jewel Robbery and One Way Passage)
Greta Garbo (Queen Christina)
Katharine Hepburn (Little Women)
Barbara Stanwyck (The Bitter Tea Of General Yen and Baby Face)
Fay Wray (The Most Dangerous Game and King Kong)
Note: TCM is showing One Way Passage this Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 6 a.m. EDT. You don't want to miss it.
Tough call on this one. Im going with Garbo, although Stanwyck was great in both of those movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Queen Kate, though when I went back and re-watched Little Women, I felt her performance in Morning Glory, which actually won the Oscar was better.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Stanwyck for sure!
ReplyDeleteStanwyck is my favorite overall, but if we're judging by these specific performances--Garbo.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Stanwyck!
ReplyDeleteWhy does that photo of Stanwyck remind me of Holidae Hayes?
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah -- the fierce determination in her eyes. That's it!

This is one of the real tough ones. I've started four different essays with each actress but Fay Wray winning.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see which one I finish first.
As for Mister Muleboy's reference to Holidae Hayes, that's an inside nod to an attorney we both knew, not well, from back in the day who is now a fixture on D.C.'s charity circuit, working for various causes such as Knock Out Abuse. If you actually care, click here -- she's in the second photo from the top.
Oh, I thought you were talking about Ira Hayes. But, as long as you're asking, put me down as having a general yen for Barbara Stanwyck in Baby Face.
