Real Women Like men, women who play real people are often nominated for an Academy Award in the leading category. Which actress was nominated for playing Eleanor Roosevelt in Sunrise at Campobello (1960)?
Notable No-Shows Joan Crawford may or may not have actually been ill when she stayed home in bed on the night she won her only Oscar as Best Actress for a 1945 film. What was it?
1) Greer Garson
ReplyDelete2) Mildred Pierce
Holy cow! In less time than it took me to pour a cup of coffee, you came up with the answer. You're scary fast, Movie Nut!
ReplyDeleteI knew that! It was one of my favorite movies. It wasn't until years later, I knew that happy little home was not so happy.
ReplyDeleteI still admire Eleanor, though.
I am also fascinated with the Joan touch-up.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. She doesn't look very sweet and lovely in the first photo.

ReplyDeleteI thought the photo was an interesting cautionary tale, that before we compare ourselves to movie stars and find ourselves wanting, we should realize even they can't live up to their image. I'm sure the Joan on the left was an attractive woman if you'd met her in real life. Just not attractive enough for the Hollywood image machine.
