    Good artists borrow, great artists steal. When a great artist steals a routine, the original never gets it back.

    Bev, I think that's exactly right. Arbuckle did his bit as a throwaway gag, Chaplin turned it into the centerpiece of a poignant, pivotal scene. You've got to give the artist credit for knowing what to do with the moment.
