Thank you for this series you've been doing on the stars of yesterday. . .I love Groucho Marx, especially. Avedon's portrait is beautiful. Would love to know the story behind that "autograph" on the first photo. Mrs. Edwards must have been quite an influence on that young man. Love this series!
I own this original autographed photo from 1905. Yes Groucho was 15. It's autographed to the widow of Gus Edwards who was responsible for mans of the well known comedians of all time , including the Marx Brothers in their early vaudeville days It reads "To Mrs. Edwards, tThis is the way I looked when I was a Gus Edwards kid. Best wishes to you. Groucho". It was signed in 1945. Where did you get a copy of it?

Wow! Did you post a copy of it on the internet? I'm sure I just saw it and forgot where it came from when I posted it.
One thing I prefer about Tumblr to Blogger is that it's easier to create chains of attribution back to the original source. But Tumblr doesn't really lend itself to the long essay form so I do Blogger.
I'd be happy to remove it or add some sort of attribution to the post, as you prefer.
