  1. I suppose those pictures of a clearly glorious vacation are going to be your excuse for no posts for a month.

The moose was right on the side of the road, eating, Katie-Bar-The-Door opened her window and started snapping pictures.

    Boris: Moose and squirrel!

You have no idea how many times I said "Moose and squirrel" in that Boris Badinoff voice. It's probably a generational thing -- you see a moose, you say "Moose and squirrel" in a thick Russian accent.

I suppose those pictures of a clearly glorious vacation are going to be your excuse for no posts for a month.

An excuse rather than an explanation, akin to the dog ate my homework.

Although the dog probably would eat my homework if she thought it tasted like meat ...

  5. could you see Russia?

Couldn't see Russia, but we did see Wasilla, for all you Sarah Palin fans out there.

By the way, you can't see Russia from Wasilla ... or Juneau or any other place except the Bering Straits, and they are a long, long way from anywhere.

Believe it or not, it was 70 degrees on top of that glacier. I think the only time we were really cold was whale watching in Juneau.

They had a late thaw this year so the rivers were still breaking up and the snow hadn't melted but otherwise it was very pleasant. Actually, the real worry was flooding and roads washing out -- late snow mixed with suddenly rising temperatures. In places the water was flowing along the road like it was shooting out of a fire hose.
