On this day 100 years ago, Babe Ruth made his major league debut for the Boston Red Sox. You can read the complete story here.
Also, on this day eighty-nine years ago, my mother was born. And on this day fifty-two years ago, my little brother was born.
July 11 is a pretty good day in the Monkey house.
thanks brudda! Ma's getting me all cleaned up for a big night out -
ReplyDeleteMust have been at least twenty years ago. Maybe more. Were we headed to the Exit-Inn or something?
ReplyDeleteBabe will always be a hero to the "Work hard, play hard" crowd of which I've always tried to be a member. And cool that Uncle tom & Mythical monkey get along so well though I am envious to be honest. When MY brother & I go out on the town we always end up doing our damnedest to avoid the kind of fist fight that used to drive my late yet sainted mother nuts, and who can blame her. So congrats on killing the incipient sibling rivalry that ruins so many brothers. And I can't think of anyone else who would make me think seriously of my mom, my brother, & Mr. Ruth in one pithy post. Ignore this Q if it's annoying, believe me I will take zero offense: Is the novel in progress?
ReplyDeleteI have two brothers and am lucky enough to be pals with both of them. They're very likeable fellows and I enjoy hanging out with them.
ReplyDeleteAs for the novel, I'm trying to write this and am probably going to wind up with this.
But I keep slugging along.
It's my father's birthday too, although I always forget it. And every year I go "7/11, I'll never forget that again." Some mnemonics just don't help as much as you think.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my father and I haven't spoken to each other in thirty-five years. Of course, that's because he died in 1979. But still, would it kill him to pick up the phone?
