1933 + 3x = 2010 + x
... where x equals the number of years, at my current pace of covering three movie years every calendar year, to reach what I call "convergence"—that is to say, when I'll be reviewing movies in the theaters rather than writing history.
Math is not my strong suit (why do you think I went to law school), but it works out to 38.5.
Years.
Here's another equation:
my current age + 38.5 years = really old!
Better pick up the pace, huh.
Premature ejacunarrating is insidious, and should be avoid.
ReplyDeleteI liked the photo, especially the changes you made in Photoshop.
Here is the original; shows you in your prime before your stint in jail
Before the arrest; after the arrest. . .
ReplyDeleteman, writing about the movies will kill ya!
That's good!
ReplyDeleteIt will be really funny if 35+ years, we'll all be blogging.
I'll be blogging about 'Depends' or wondering why I can't get a date.
Oi.
It will be really funny if 35+ years, we'll all be blogging.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you think about what the world was like forty years ago -- in 1970, the internet was a year old, Corning glass had just invented fiber optics, the first microprocessor was still a year away, not to mention that Richard Nixon was president, the Beatles broke up and we were still fighting in VietNam -- and the notion that we'll be blogging strikes me as far-fetched.
Indeed, the fact that I am blogging is proof positive that the phenomenon is already passe.
By 2050, we'll no doubt plug directly into our cerebral cortex and think thoughts at each other, and the privacy issue of the day will be whether we can ever truly unplug. I doubt it. By then, Mark Zuckerberg will have downloaded flash cookies into our brains and sold the info to the highest paying corporation.
On the other hand, organizing high school reunions will be a snap ...
BUT! In other ways, things have changed so little compared to what I was expecting as a lad -- where's my jetpack?! Where's my space colony?! What a rip. And the difference between 1970 and 2010 is nowhere near as great -- is it? -- as the difference between, say, 1930 & 1970.
ReplyDeleteOf course -- admittedly I actually AM a noncontributing zero -- so I should keep that in mind!
But I mean, like my grandma who died at 97, she got to see the first automobiles, indoor plumbing!, radio, TV, electricity (thank you, FDR!), refrigerators ... even though she lived in Brunswick, Mo.
I am a writer and just started a daily blog (and debate forum) on the hot topics of the day. I m currently trying to network and get my name out. I welcome you to check it out and leave any comments, opinions, or debate you wish. Thanks in advance!
