What's The Second Best Bette Davis Movie?

Who Am Us writes to tell us that he finally saw his first Bette Davis movie, All About Eve, and that he loved it. And a good choice it was. If I were going to recommend one and only Bette Davis movie, that's the one I'd pick.

But what should he see next? Now, Voyager? The Letter? What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? Something else? Vote here, and remember an eager young man's budding infatuation with Bette Davis hangs in the balance.

  1. I voted for "The Letter" because it contains my (current) favorite Bette Davis performance, was directed by William Wyler and is based on a Somerset Maugham story (that he also adapted for the stage) that was based on a true - and sensational - story. My suggestion is to watch "The Letter" (1940) first, "Now, Voyager" (1942) next and then "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" (1962).

  2. The Letter is on my short list of favorite Bette Davis movies. Somerset Maugham story, proto-noir movie, Bette Davis in maximum Bette Davis mode. A great choice, especially for someone just warming up to her work.

  3. I love The Letter after seeing it on the big screen some years ago. Great cast and direction by Wyler.

  4. For some reason Wyler isn't discussed much on the list of great directors anymore but he got more great performances out of actors than anyone in history and I'd stack his list of movies directed against anybody's. One of the all-time greats.

  5. "The Letter" is my favourite, but I think "Now, Voyager" or "Jezebel" are easier to love.
