Ordinarily, I would have nominated Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away here — it was released in Japan in 2001 — but it won the Oscar for animated feature in 2002 and thus it feels like a 2002 movie to me. Come back next week to vote for it.

It's a Hollywood tradition to nominate child actors in the supporting category no matter how much time they spend on the screen or how essential to the story they are. But we here at the Monkey don't give a damn about Hollywood tradition. Haley Joel Osment is the co-lead in The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis, thus the lead actor nomination.

Boy, that is a moustache, isn't it.
By the way, I may be one of the few people on Earth who admits to liking Shakespeare in Love these days even if it's not the best movie of the year. I rank it fourth behind The Big Lebowski, Out of Sight and Saving Private Ryan, in that order.
