1967 Alternate Oscars

My choices are noted with a ★. A tie is indicated with a ✪. Historical Oscar winners are noted with a ✔.

Hollywood had been sneaking out of the Production Code's bathroom window for a while now but in 1967, it kicked the entire rotting edifice to the ground and defiantly announced, "Dad, I'm pregnant!"

Or something like that.

In any event, the look and feel of Hollywood movies changed radically in 1967, which was both good and bad, depending on who was making the movie. Not everyone knows what to do with their freedom, but them that do — whoa, Nellie!

I wonder the reactions of the American public in 1967 when they saw:
Sidney Poitier giving back in the face of a white man
Anne Bancroft seducing her daughter’s boyfriend
Two murderers with cold blood and no repent
A well-married French wife as a part-time lover
A couple of famous criminals turned beautiful and naive bandits

Joe Morani

Sad no Alain Delon, but I get it. AND I'm not sure that he would have rec'd my vote (but I'm also not sure he wouldn'ta).

This was a tough year for your average, ordinary mule. The effect on this equine catastrophe of Catherine Denueve and her bare back cannot be overstated. Nor can the effect of Le Samouraï.

And although I'm in a tiny minority, I was glad that I was not alone in expressing some love for Mildred Natwick. Just wish I could have voted for both Cassavetes and Hackman -- but we both know who was actually top dog.

blah blah blah -- enough of me. . . .
