I've seen The War of the Worlds many times since I was a kid, and I think what I like most about it, aside from the sound effects, is that everybody seems knocked out that Gene Barry is a "scientist." Like "scientist" was a handy jack-of-all-trades profession that made him an expert in astronomy, biology, geology, fishing and forest fires.
That, and the only woman on the entire west coast is a scientist freak—did her thesis on scientists! Not science, mind you, scientists. Is that even a subject?
Anyway, every time I see The War of the Worlds, I think, "Why didn't I become a scientist?"

The Katie should'a gone to William Holden.
Just for the little salute. . . .
MM,
I must confess that I haven't seen this War of the Worlds. I never see it airing but hopefully I can find it.
Roman Holiday is my favorite for Audrey although I think Albert was such a stand out as the 'wing man'.
I know I'm alone here but From Here to Eternity just doesn't move me like everyone else. (I do have weird taste though)
Enjoying your award posts!

I remember this being discussed at length at the Mouth O' The Mule (here), but was surprised to see that the man himself, Mr. Bellotoot, hadn't commented. After all, he's the one whose head explodes when Holden salutes at the end.
What say ye, Mr. B?

This is my favorite Eddie Albert performance, which is saying something since his bantering with Arnold the Pig on Green Acres is legendary. Some pig, indeed!
