1994 Alternate Oscars

How did 1994 get to be thirty years ago?

I saw all the major contenders for best picture in the theater, including Pulp Fiction four times — it knocked my eyes out. The Shawshank Redemption is actually my favorite of the bunch but I went with Quentin Tarantino's classic as best picture — I think it's had the biggest impact.

By the way, for whatever reason, years ending in 4 tend to be great ones for movies:

1924: Greed, Thief of Bagdad, Sherlock Jr.
1934: It Happened One Night, The Thin Man
1944: Double Indemnity, Laura, Meet Me In St. Louis, The Miracle of Morgan's Creek
1954: Rear Window, On the Waterfront, Seven Samurai, Sabrina, A Star Is Born, The Caine Mutiny, Godzilla
1964: Dr. Strangelove, A Hard Day's Night, Goldfinger, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady
1974: Chinatown, The Godfather Part II, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
1984: The Terminator, This Is Spinal Tap, Amadeus, Ghostbusters, A Passage to India, Once Upon a Time in America, The Natural
1994: see the list below
2004: Mean Girls, The Incredibles, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, Before Sunset, The Aviator
2014: Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar, John Wick, The Lego Movie

Too early to tell about 2024 but Inside Out 2 did clean up last weekend ...
