Ginger Rogers, Fighter

They went at it, two legends toe-to-toe like Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Round after brutal round, they slugged it out, a street brawl without art or finesse.

Rogers, her eyes swollen shut, blood oozing from a thousand wounds, slumped exhausted in her corner.

"You'll go blind, Ginger," pleaded her trainer and dance partner, Fred Astaire. "Let me throw in the towel!"

"Cut me!" she snapped. The fight went on.

With eight hours to go, Ginger Rogers leads defending champion Irene Dunne, 238-202.

someone's been cheating, it's just so obvious...I've been following the poll and the amount of votes Ginger's got are definitely not normal...as soon as someone votes for Irene, right away 10, 20 more people vote for Ginger, not even a minute later. Someone is obviously manipulating this. Don't get me wrong, I love Ginger, but this is obviously fake. Too bad!

Something does appear to be amiss (not sure for either side, though), considering as of 4 p.m., there were 450 votes in the Rogers-Dunne match, and only 329 in the equally thrilling Lombard vs. Loy.

Well, let's put it this way -- I can't prove it and I can't stop it (I don't even know how to do it), so I'm just treating it as evidence of the intensity of each actress's support. Until Monty, the founder of this particular feast, says otherwise, that is.

I'll work it into my after action report, though ...

Ginger is not winning honestly!

allright allright...everybody calm down...

...here's what I think has happened... I, along with a few other Gingerologists, have placed a link to this great site, and of course encouraging folks to VOTE GINGER!... and it may just be that we woke up all the Gingerologists out there

I noticed my 'site hits' for the last day and a half on G-ology are about twice as many as usual.
...but it's not out of the realm of possibility that someone out there is in a public library with 50 computers - using each one to cast a vote - but, as for me and my crew, we registered 7 big ones for VKM, and that's expending ALL electronic devices available to us.

...if anything, it proves that we Gingerologists are a pretty tenacious bunch, not unlike the object of our affection!!! :-)

Keep up the great work, y'all!

well, we're Irenelogists too and we've been promoting the polls among our Irene Dunne friends as well, but still, this poll IS being manipulated. It's as if someone was out there checking the screen every 5 minutes, they should be less obvious when it comes to cheating. To me, Ginger won't win honestly. There's obviously a computer expert doing this.

...BTW, thanks for joining G-ology, MM! I thought I was one of your followers, as I have been on this awesome site quite a few times... but it isn't indicating as such in my 'stats'...so I'm off to rectify that ASAP - keep up the incredible work! oh, and I REALLY liked the 'banner' for Ginger!

As we say over in G-land,

Keep It Gingery! (KIG)

This is the way I plan to treat it unless I'm told otherwise ...

..Anonymous - well, sorry if that is the case... Ginger would want to win it 'fair and square', and hopefully if there's another round, folks will be that way about it.

BTW, great to hear there are 'Ireneologists' out there - she was pretty dang cool, and loved 'The Awful Truth'!

Hey John,

I had a similar problem last year with the Irene/Carole match that my friend Renata caught. It seemed that particular poll allowed people to vote as many times as they wanted...hence the insane amount of votes. I had to restart the poll just to keep things fair. Looks like that will be the case here. It's the only way to be sure.

My two cents: No matter who your a fan of Ginger or Irene, this poll just shows there are a lot of dedicated and passionate fans either way.

Honestly up until now I have seen this happen with both Irene and Ginger. As soon as there were Ginger votes a bunch of Irene votes would appear and vice versa. This has been going back and forth for a couple of days now. So it seems to be happening on BOTH sides.

That said it's not really fair to say if Ginger wins then the true winner didn't prevail. The word is getting out on both sides I'm sure, and everyone seems to love on or the other. I personally think they are both fabulous.

So, I think that no matter who wins (because it's not really going to be known who the true winner is on both sides no matter how many times you put out the poll) that everyone should just vote for the lady who they love the most and think best deserves this title. Keep getting the word out to ALL fans.

If people start getting upset either way *because if your a Ginger fan and she looses you won't be happy, and if your an Irene fan and she looses you won't be happy* then that takes away all the fun that this is suppose to be about in the first place:-)

it does seem to me that there's something weird about this poll, and not cause Irene is losing (I was really sure she was gonna lose the same, I mean, Ginger is way more popular), but I just think the amount of votes are insane and whether all Ginger fans are really voting or someone is cheating, I just think it's weird that she didn't get this reaction on previous polls.

To me Irene will always be the best actress ever, but I know Ginger is more popular and this poll doesn't really mean that someone is better than the other, I guess it's only intended to be something fun.

I support whatever decision you take, Monty. Sometimes you just can't control these things so maybe you should leave it like that. =) But it's up to you! and hey, our Carole is winning =D

Super excited Carole is winning!! I'm having fun either way...

Since there's only a few hundred votes in these polls, I would guess that every match is pretty much decided by whose sites get the word out that the vote is taking place. I know that I only knew about it since I happened to go to a Carole Lombard blog, though I might have learned of it from the Gingerology site a little later (which probably tells you who I voted for LOL!).

Not to take anything away from Irene 'cause I think she's terrific, but I don't know that her earlier (ridiculously) lopsided victories were examples of particularly fair polling, either.
