Today's Oscar Trivia #9

The Write Stuff Billy Wilder is tied with three other writers for the record for most writing Oscars (three wins, in three different writing categories). For what 1941 comedy starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck did Billy Wilder share a nomination with Thomas Monroe for Best Original Story?

Memorable Oscar Moments In one of the more embarrassing Oscar moments, presented Lloyd Bacon called out "Come and get it, Frank!" in announcing Frank Lloyd as the winner of the award as Best Director of 1933—and fellow nominee Frank Capra leapt to his feet to head toward the stage. The film for which Lloyd won, shown in its TCM premiere, is a historical drama based on a Noel Coward stage hit. Name it.

Remember, you can check out TCM's entire "31 Days of Oscar" schedule here.

Oh, and have I mentioned MovieNut14's blog, Defiant Success? You can check it out here.

Her latest post invites you to share a favorite movie quote -- I contributed one from Bringing Up Baby because Katie-Bar-The-Door, Mister Muleboy, Michele and I happened to see it Saturday at the AFI Silver. Remember this one? "When a man is wrestling a leopard in the middle of a pond, he's in no position to run."

Words to live by.

Does TCM claim it was Lloyd Bacon? Because everything I have ever read, including Inside Oscar, says that it was Will Rogers who said "It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Come up and get it, Frank!"

You know, even as I was transcribing the question I was thinking "Lloyd Bacon? I thought it was Will Rogers." Glad to know I'm not delusional.

I think TCM blew it.

funny story about Frank Capra! that was abit silly of Lloyd Bacon or Will rogers. In retrospect if it was going to be Frank to win best director it should of been Frank Capra anyway.
geez I always get to your trivias to late! oh well next time next time lol.

It's the one and only downside of living in New Zealand, that you're always asleep while I'm posting trivia.

On the other hand, it's summer there, while it's snowing again here. So you've got that going for you.

Just for you, I'll post tomorrow's trivia early, in the comment section of your blog. (Everybody else has to wait until tomorrow!)
