Happy New Year.
If everything had gone to plan in 2010, this would be the post where I announce the Katie-Bar-The-Door nominees for the movie year 1936. Okay, so I'm a bit behind. But here are ten subjects I swear I'll write about before the calendar year is done.
Les Vampires
Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford
Pola Negri
Rudolph Valentino
The Thin Man
Bette Davis
Clark Gable
Katharine Hepburn
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
Alfred Hitchcock

But don't you ALWAYS talk about these very people? Ha! Well, maybe except for Pola Negri. I know zip about her. :)
And by the way, Mr.Monkey, what's your view of a Johnny Depp THIN MAN? (I kind of like the idea.)
But don't you ALWAYS talk about these very people? Ha!
That's how I know I'll talk about them!
what's your view of a Johnny Depp THIN MAN?
I'm a big fan of both the movies with William Powell and Myrna Loy, and the original Dashiell Hammett novel they're based on, and I'll say there's quite a difference between the two -- so there's plenty of territory for a new movie to explore. Plus I think Johnny Depp is a terrific actor. Besides, some of my favorite movies were remakes -- The Wizard Of Oz, Ben-Hur, The Maltese Falcon, etc. So I'm willing to keep an open mind on the subject.
What do others of you think?
The first vol. of Les Vampires (a couple of the serials?) was available on Netflix Instant Streaming for a while, so I got to see some of it.
My main introduction was via the 1996 Irma Vep - a funny, self-reflexive film. I won't say much except it included a scene of film-makers watching a film of themselves watching a film.
I'm looking forward to your posts.
If the rest of the serial is available from Netflix, I'd recommend it -- Musidora as Irma Vep shows up around episode 3 and it really takes off. It's not that she's such a dish, but she owns the screen.
Not to mention she's delightfully evil ...
Gahd Bless You, sirrah.
I'll tell mary -- she'll be most pleased. . . .
PS That Depp fellow would have done well with us in our heyday -- although he'd 'a never had a chance if we'd appeared together!
gosh, what a great blog!
gonna follow :)
all best in 2011!

So MythMon, you are aware that StereoLit Exhibit carries with them/her/him
greatness
, are you not? I saw that you joined the blog.
Exciting, special vision from those photographers -- a visit to the store will have you drooling, or broke.
Or both.
Looking forward to the Thin Man and Gable essays! I think Johnny Depp would be pretty good as Nick Charles.
